Please welcome a new pediatrician to Siena Medical Clinic, Dr. Leo Altamirano. He comes here from Fredericksburg, VA. He is married to Jing and they have three sons. He joins Drs. Jim Zauche, Michael Shull, and Elizabeth Doyle and is taking over Dr. Stephen Meyer's practice. Dr. Meyers retired last month after 33 years of practice in Garden City. Congratulations to St. Catherine Hospital August Associate of the Month, Jill Mader. She began working at St. Catherine Hospital in 2004 on the Medical/ Pediatric floor.

Downtown Vision has received National Trust Main Street Accreditation for 2010-2011! They have been designated as an accredited National Main Street program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center. They were also cited for their outstanding work in "meeting the challenges of recession" head on and have successfully focused on the development of a comprehensive revitalization strategy in conjunction with the City's comprehensive plan that will no doubt keep your community vibrant and sustainable.

Wheatfields on Main is celebrating their 30th Anniversary and will be giving away over $3,000 worth of merchandise away over the next few months. The Transportation Enhancement grant has been approved to the tune of 80% of $711,757.00 for exterior and structural stabilization of the former Windsor Hotel. It was one of 18 funded out of 55 applications to the Kansas Department of Transportation. "On behalf of the Finney County Preservation Alliance I would like to thank all who lent their public support for this grant request. The monies provided will help move the Windsor forward towards the ultimate goal of the restoration of this community icon," said Don Harness, President of the Finney County Preservation Alliance.

The City of Garden City has hired Jake Cunningham as its new City Prosecutor. Cunningham, who is a 2010 graduate of Washburn University School of Law, began his new role for the City on August 2. He follows former City Prosecutor, Kara Schartz, who transitioned to the private sector in February. As City Prosecutor, Mr. Cunningham will be responsible for prosecuting city ordinance violations in municipal court.

Jason and Jennifer Dougherty have recently purchased the property and used car inventory of Auto Quest. Legacy Auto Center is the new name and it is located at 1621 E. Fulton St. Watch for a Ribbon Cutting soon.

The Community Mexican Fiesta will be held in September. Activities throughout the weekend include the Fiesta Scholarship Pageant at Garden City Community College on Friday, September 10 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, September 11, the Fiesta Parade will march down Garden City's Main Street beginning at 10 a.m. Immediately following the parade, family-friendly activities, food, and live music will be at Stevens Park until 6 p.m. A community dance is scheduled at the 3i Building Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at El Remedio Market.

The Chiropractic Center of Jerome Greene has finished remodeling their clinic facilities. Since they have move to their offices at 805 N. Main, St. 2 they have expanded their staff to two full time and three part time employees. Their expansion is allowing them to offer more therapy services such as, decompression therapy, lumbar and cervical traction and rehabilitation exercises. They are also doing DOT, drug and alcohol testing. Stop by and see their new look!

Melissa Quisenberry from Middleville, Michigan, has been hired as the new Child Care Director at the Garden City Family YMCA. Miss Quizenberry started on August 30, 2010. Welcome to Garden City Melissa!!
